Lawyer: Convicted in the case of Paul Wylan, can be exchanged for Yaroshenko or Buta

American Paul Willian, who received 16 years in a colony in the espionage case, can exchange Konstantin Yaroshenko or Viktor Buta for Russian convicted in the United States. This was announced by the lawyer of Wylan Vladimir Zherebenkov, the correspondent of MBH Media reports.

“The issue of exchange will be resolved at the Foreign Ministry level,” the lawyer said.

He also added that the decision of the Court of Wilen will be appealed.

The detention of a US citizen Paul Willian in Moscow became known on December 31, 2018. A criminal case has been instituted against the American under an article on espionage (Article 276 of the Criminal Code). The media wrote that Wylan was suspected of collecting information about one of the Russian special services-he received a flash card allegedly with a list of personnel of one of the operational services of the FSB from the current special services employee. Washington Post found that in 2008, Wylan was fired from the US Army after several disciplinary sanctions due to suspicions of theft.

In 2010, Konstantin Yaroshenko was detained in Liberia and extradited in the United States. There he was accused of smuggling drugs and sentenced to 20 years in prison. At the end of September, Novaya Gazeta, citing a source, reported that Moscow was ready to discuss the exchange of a Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsovo, Viktor Butita and Maria Butin in Russia.

Viktor Buta was arrested in Thailand at the request of the United States in 2008. He was charged with the preparation of conspiracy to kill US citizens, US troops, with the aim of material supporting terrorism and the illegal turnover of portable missiles of the Earth-Athos. In 2012, the jury in New York found the Russian guilty and issued a minimum sentence under the articles that he was incriminated-25 years in prison.
