A historian caught Putin using a fake Hitler quote in an article about World War II. From a book that is recognized as extremist in Russia
The quote attributed to Adolf Hitler that Vladimir Putin used in his World War II article is not actually from the leader of Nazi Germany. Historian, archive researcher Igor Petrov wrote about this on Facebook.
“Hitler directly stated: “Our policy towards the peoples inhabiting the wide expanses of Russia should be to encourage any form of discord and split,” the president’s article says.
Petrov noted that although Putin did not cite the source of this quote in his article, it can be traced to other publications where it was used - this is Henry Picker's book "Hitler's Table Talk".
At the same time, according to Petrov, there are no such words in the book. The quote closest in meaning is as follows: “And therefore, ruling over the peoples conquered by us in the eastern lands of the Reich, one must be guided by one basic principle, namely: to give space to those who wish to enjoy individual freedoms, to avoid any form of state control and thereby make everything so that these peoples are at the lowest possible level of cultural development.
The historian also noted that an analysis of Picker's book, published in 2019, showed that it does not convey Hitler's authentic words, but retroactively edited memories of other people.
