In the United States, protests against police arbitrariness, which began after the death of a black resident of Minneapolis George Floyd, have been going on in the United States. Throughout America and in some European countries, stock participants throw away the monuments of the colonial past, in Seattle the protesters created an autonomous zone without the police.
What was happening forced large companies to rethink their corporate values and marketing strategies. The founder of Reddit Alexis Oganyan left the company's board of directors after 15 years of work in the leadership. He recommended taking a black top manager in his place and promised that he would fight racism.
Pepsico subsidiary announced that the logo and packaging of Aunt Jemima syrup is changed. According to representatives of the company, the image of a woman’s black woman on the packaging “is based on a racial stereotype”.
Pepsico was followed by another largest manufacturer of products - Mars Inc. The company noticed that the packaging of the Uncle Benʼs line can also be calculated by racist-it depicts a black man in a butterfly tie. The New York Times, back in 2007, noticed that earlier the appeal “Uncle” and “Aunt” to unfamiliar black people were neglecting. For the whites, “Mr.” and “Mrs.” were used, respectively. And the butterfly was not worn by entrepreneurs, but by service personnel of hotels or restaurants.
How did the Black Lives Matter movement, uniting thousands of protesters around the world, influenced business? And how deep are these changes? Explains the director of the communication group Strong, the teacher of the Higher School and the RANEPA Dmitry Sentorov.
