The Investigative Committee dropped the case against a St. Petersburg resident who escaped from quarantine

The Investigative Committee closed the criminal case against a Petersburger who escaped from quarantine in March 2020, where he was sent after returning from abroad. This was reported to Fontanka by lawyer Nodar Bokolishvili.

“No corpus delicti was found in the actions of [my] client. For the entire period of the investigation, one investigative action was carried out with us - interrogation as an accused, ”Bokolishvili said.

The investigation against 32-year-old Georgy Obraztsov was the first criminal case in Russia on violation of quarantine conditions.

• On March 21, Obraztsov returned to St. Petersburg from Switzerland, at the airport he was warned about the need for a two-week quarantine.
• However, the Petersburger went out into the street, and on March 26 he was sent for compulsory quarantine to the Zarya boarding house. From there he escaped the next day, on March 28 he was detained in St. Petersburg and sent back to the boarding house.
• The case against Obraztsov was opened under an article on attempted violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules (Article 236 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Whether the Petersburger was sick with COVID-19 was not specified.
