Russians began returning currency to bank deposits

The volume of foreign currency deposits in Russian banks in May increased by 721 million dollars and by June 1 amounted to almost 89 billion dollars, follows from the statistics of the Central Bank.

The publication calls the growth of foreign currency deposits “symbolic”: bank customers have so far returned only 8.7% of what they have taken from deposits since the beginning of 2020.

• In January 2020, foreign currency deposits of Russians decreased by a total of $0.4 billion, in February - by $1.8 billion, and in March - by $5 billion. In April, the volume of foreign currency deposits decreased by $1.1 billion, writes Prime.
• In general, deposits of individuals in Russian banks in March decreased by 315 billion rubles, the Central Bank reported, noting that it was mainly foreign currency.
