The case of the Khachaturian sisters, accused of murdering their father, was again transferred to the prosecutor's office

The Main Directorate of the Investigative Committee completed an additional investigation into the criminal case of the Khachaturian sisters and again sent the materials to the prosecutor's office for approval of the indictment. This is reported on the department's website.

The case was sent for further investigation after the Prosecutor General’s Office refused to approve the indictment at the end of 2019. According to Angelina Khachaturyan’s lawyer Alexey Parshin, the supervisory agency considered that the sisters’ actions should be classified as necessary self-defense, and not as murder.

During the additional investigation, Parshin said , the investigation conducted several examinations, which “once again confirmed the version that [the sisters] were in a state of necessary defense, their lives were in danger.”

Despite this, the Investigative Committee continues to insist that the sisters committed the murder by a group of people by prior conspiracy (clause “g” of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code). The investigation considers the motive for the murder to be “personal hostility caused by their father’s infliction of physical and mental suffering on his daughters over a long period of time.”

The Investigative Committee asks the prosecutor's office to approve the indictment against Krestina and Angelina Khachaturyan. The younger sister, Maria Khachaturyan, according to the investigation, should be sent for compulsory treatment.

Krestina, Angelina and Maria Khachaturyan stabbed to death their father Mikhail Khachaturyan in July 2018. The “physical and mental suffering” caused by the father was recognized as a mitigating circumstance.
