Moskalkova turned to Bastrykin after a police attack on a Mediazona journalist

Ombudsman for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova appealed to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin because of the incident with Mediazona journalist David Frenkel, whose arm was broken by a policeman at a polling station.

About the attack

Mediazona journalist David Frenkel was beaten on June 30 at a polling station in St. Petersburg, where voting on amendments to the Constitution was taking place. Frenkel came to the polling station to record how they were trying to expel a member of the commission with the right to vote.

Police officer Denis Dmitriev and an observer, a former municipal deputy from United Russia, Dmitry Abramov, took part in the attack on the journalist. Doctors diagnosed Frenkel with a broken arm, he underwent surgery.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the policeman did not attack the journalist, but “in accordance with the procedure established by law” removed him from the station. The city election committee of St. Petersburg said that Frenkel created a conflict situation at the polling station.

Moskalkova told Kommersant that she had asked the head of the UK to "check and take response measures." According to her , it is necessary to check how legitimate the "tough measures" that were applied to the journalist. “Everyone must act within the law,” she said.
