Protesters against amendments to the Constitution were detained in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, three people were detained who were holding a rally against amendments to the Constitution near the building of the Legislative Assembly: Svetlana Sitnikova and supporters of the Libertarian Party Vladimir Vasilenko and Alexander Nikitin. This was reported by OVD-Info Vladimir Vasilenko.

Participants of the action were holding posters and lighted fireworks. At the moment they are being taken to the first police department of the Admiralteisky district. Defenders from OVD-Info Yulia Mikheykina, Valeria Vetoshkina and Anton Yupanov went to the detainees.

22:06 Protocols were drawn up on the detainees on the organization of an uncoordinated event (part 2 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). They are left at the police station for the night before the trial. Defenders from OVD-Info Valery Vetoshkina and Anton Yupanov reported.

• On March 11, the State Duma approved the draft law on amendments to the Constitution, initiated by Vladimir Putin. Before that, the President supported the amendment of Deputy Valentina Tereshkova, who proposed to give the President the opportunity to run for two new terms after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution. Sobyanin called the ban on Putin being elected "a destabilizing factor." The amendments are planned to be approved at a nationwide vote, the main stage of which will be held on July 1, 2020.
