The Americans accused the Russian GRU of conspiracy with the Taliban and threaten sanctions. What does the US presidential election have to do with it? And what happens in Afghanistan?

The Russian military intelligence unit entered into a conspiracy with the Taliban movement in Afghanistan, wrote The New York Times, citing its sources. According to the publication, the Russian special services offered Taliban money for the murder of the military from the contingent of the international coalition, including Americans.

The sources of the newspaper said that the militants received a reward. According to the interlocutors of The New York Times, the American authorities intercepted the data on bank transfer from the GRU account to the accounts of people allegedly related to the Taliban. The Washington Post reported that several US army soldiers died due to the alleged conspiracy of Russia with militants.

The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin did not know about these accusations. Employees of the Russian diplomatic service in Washington and London reported that after the publication of The New York Times, threats began to come. They called the material of the newspaper Fake.

US President Donald Trump said that no one reported to him about the possible conspiracy of Russia with militants in Afghanistan. However, the sources of The New York Times claim that Trump learned about these facts back in February 2020.

Taliban also denied a conspiracy with the Kremlin. Moreover, exactly this information is doubted by the American special services. In particular, there are disagreements between the US National Security Agency and the CIA.

The US Congress called for sanctions against Russia. They can affect Russian President Vladimir Putin, defense minister Sergei Shoigu and other officials.

What happens in Afghanistan? How possible is the Kremlin’s conspiracy with the Taliban? And what does the American presidential election have to do with it? Explains the director of the Center for the Study of Modern Afghanistan Omar Nessar.
