The ISS orbit was unplannedly adjusted due to space debris

The Mission Control Center (part of Roskosmos) on the evening of July 3 carried out an unscheduled correction of the orbit of the International Space Station (ISS) to avoid collision with space debris. This is reported by Roscosmos.

For the maneuver, the engines of the Progress MS-14 cargo ship, which is docked to the Russian segment of the ISS, were used.

The engines accelerated the station by 0.5 meters per second, the height of the ISS orbit eventually increased by 900 meters.

The ISS crew, consisting of cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner, as well as astronauts Christopher Cassidy, Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken, is working according to the planned program, Roscosmos added.

• According to Roskosmos , at the beginning of 2020, there were up to 700,000 space debris objects in Earth's orbit. We are talking about objects whose size is more than a centimeter in diameter.
