Deputy Chairman of the Government of Dagestan arrested in connection with the murder of the founder of an opposition publication

On July 3, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested the former deputy chairman of the government of Dagestan, Shamil Isaev, for two months. He is accused of organizing the murder of Khadzhimurad Kamalov, founder of the opposition newspaper Chernovik. This is reported by the publication "Caucasian Knot".

In January, the court sentenced Isaev to four years and six months in prison. The court found him guilty of misappropriation of 56.4 million rubles.

• Khadzhimurad Kamalov was killed in December 2011 in Makhachkala. The Investigative Committee believed that the murder could be related to his professional activities - the independent weekly newspaper Chernovik criticized the state of affairs in the republic, the activities of the ministries and the criminal situation in the region.
