July 4 marks the 70th anniversary of the first air of the Radio Free Europe.

Radio Free Europe was born in the midst of the Cold War for broadcasting on the countries of the then Soviet bloc - Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Czechoslovakia. Eastern European emigrants - journalists, writers, publicists became employees of Free Europe. In 1976, two stations-Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty merged into one and since then exist as a single corporation broadcasting in 23 languages, with the general headquarters in Prague.
