The Lefortovo District Court of Moscow arrested journalist and adviser to the head of Roscosmos Ivan Safronov in the case of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code) for two months until September 6. This was reported by a Mediazona correspondent from the court room with a broadcast of the court hearing.
The meeting was held behind closed doors.
Safronov was detained on July 7 at his entrance, and the journalist’s apartment was searched. The security forces also came to the home of the editor-in-chief of the Kholod publication, Taisiya Bekbulatova.
The details of Safronov's case are unknown. The FSB claims that the journalist passed on secret data to the intelligence services of one of the NATO countries.
Roscosmos assured that the persecution of the journalist was not related to his work in the state corporation. He was invited to the position of adviser less than two months ago.
Before this, Safronov worked for 10 years at Kommersant and Vedomosti. In May 2019, he was fired from Kommersant for an article about the possible resignation of Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko.
Journalists came out in support of their colleague and staged single pickets near the FSB building on Lubyanka.
