Interfax notes that mortality in June has become record in 10 years. During this period, more than six thousand people per month died in the city - in January 2016 and 2017, as well as in March 2018.

In January, 5,382 deaths were registered in St. Petersburg, in February - 5 019, in March - 5 094, in April - 5,303, in May - 6,427.

Earlier it was reported that mortality in Moscow in May, against the backdrop of coronavirus pandemia, increased by 58% compared to the same period last year.

In May, Financial Times and New York Times wrote that Russia underestimates the statistics of mortality from Covid-19. After that, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that the country's authorities have never been manipulated by coronavirus data. Press Secretary of Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov explained low mortality from coronavirus in the country with an “effective healthcare system”. Despite this, the World Health Organization advised Russia to reconsider the methodology for calculating deaths from coronavirus.
