The governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, was charged under several points of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder), as well as under articles on attempted murder and its organization. SC reports.
“According to the investigation, Furgal was involved in organizing murders and attempted murders of entrepreneurs committed by an organized criminal group in 2004-2005 on the territory of the Khabarovsk Territory and the Amur Region,” the ministry said in a statement.
- Furgal was detained on July 9 near his house in Khabarovsk, he was about to go to work. Furgal's case is handled by the main department for the investigation of especially important cases of the RF IC. The head of the region was taken to Moscow.
- As part of the investigation of the Furgal case, two deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Khabarovsk Territory were detained . They are suspected of fraud, a source told RIA Novosti. A TASS source later said that the case of the deputies "is not yet connected" with the case of the Khabarovsk governor.
