Compared to the beginning of the "quarantine pause", residents of Novosibirsk began to play less online, according to MTS. In April and May, esports and gaming services were the most popular among online solutions and showed almost a tenfold increase compared to 2019. This is probably due to the beginning of the summer holidays and the hot weather that has settled in the city.
Now online cinemas and streaming video remain popular with Novosibirsk residents. Compared to 2019, their demand has increased by more than 3.5 times. Perhaps this trend was influenced by a long period of lack of access to entertainment venues and cultural organizations.
To form the index of digital activity, MTS analyzed depersonalized data on attendance by mobile subscribers of 29,975 sites and applications, both federal and regional, of the following categories: social networks, instant messengers, online cinemas and video streaming services, banking sites, applications and fintech services, resources for obtaining government services, educational platforms, video conferencing and services for remote work, online stores, food delivery services, telemedicine services, e-sports and gaming platforms.
The demand for services for remote work among Novosibirsk residents has decreased - it has decreased four times. Five times less began to use educational platforms. “Online education services are the only digital resources that are less used than last year. Such “negative popularity” can be explained both by the period of holidays and vacations, and by the fact that people during the pandemic are tired of the online learning format,” MTS notes.
