Two Jehovah's Witnesses released from pre-trial detention center

In the Primorsky Territory, the court did not extend the period of detention of Jehovah's Witnesses follower Evgeniy Grinenko and replaced the pre-trial detention center with house arrest. The website “Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia” reports this.

Grinenko, who is accused of organizing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code), managed to spend 58 days in a pre-trial detention center and during this time his health condition worsened.

In turn, the Krasnoyarsk Regional Court canceled the decision of the Nazarovo City Court of June 19 on the detention of another follower of Jehovah's Witnesses, Ivan Shulyuk, and ordered him to prohibit certain actions as a preventive measure.

• On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. Later, all Jehovah's Witnesses organizations were added to the list of prohibited organizations. After this, a stream of criminal cases against representatives of the confession began.
• A resident of Lesozavodsk (Primorsky Territory) Evgeny Grinenko was sent to a pre-trial detention center after massive searches in the houses of local Jehovah's Witnesses.
• Law enforcement officers detained Jehovah's Witness Ivan Shulyuk on June 18 in Nazarovo, Krasnoyarsk Territory, then searches were carried out at at least 12 addresses of believers.
