A case of extremism was opened against an Omsk pensioner who denies the collapse of the USSR. The FSB suspected him of preparing to seize power

A 72-year-old disabled pensioner from Omsk, Vladimir Beskhlebny, was charged with creating an extremist community. This was reported to Novaya Gazeta by Beskhlebny's relatives.

The pensioner denies the collapse of the USSR and is the chairman of the Omsk "executive committee of the Council of People's Deputies of the RSFSR." He himself, five of his associates, as well as two Omsk offices of the movement were searched.

Beskhlebny's apartment was searched last week. The resolution on the search said that, according to the FSB department for the Omsk region, the pensioner was preparing an "armed seizure of power" in the country.

During the search, Beskhlebny was seized a computer, a telephone, a Soviet-style passport (he did not exchange it for a Russian one), “state seals of the RSFSR and other important state documents,” writes Novaya Gazeta.

On July 11, the Central Court of Omsk placed the pensioner under house arrest.

“Major Volkov, deputy head of the Investigative Department of the FSB, confidently stated in court: ‘We will present the evidence base’,” says Vladimir Zhigalin, who appears in the investigation’s decision as the coordinator of an “extremist organization” in the suburban village of Krasnoyarka. “You saw Vladimir Nikolaevich [Beskhlebny]: he is an invalid, had an accident a few years ago, walks with a cane, isn’t it ridiculous for our bodies themselves to suspect him of seizing power? Or do they have nothing else to do? he adds.
