The court extended the preventive measure for those involved in the “New Greatness” case for a month

The Lyublinsky District Court extended the preventive measure for those involved in the “New Greatness” case until August 17. This was reported in a broadcast from the courtroom.

The accused Ruslan Kostylenkov, Vyacheslav Kryukov, Dmitry Poletaev and Pyotr Karamzin remain in the pre-trial detention center. Maria Dubovik, Anna Pavlikova and Maxim Roshchin are under house arrest. The defendants in the case have been under investigation since May 2018.

According to the prosecutor, the grounds for extending the arrest of each of the defendants are that they are accused of committing a serious crime, may escape, or influence the course of the case.

The lawyers opposed the prosecutor's request:

“The petition is not substantiated, no compelling evidence has been provided that my client should be in custody for a long time. There are no grounds that would characterize my client as a person who should be in custody for so long. The defendant's guilt has not been proven. The severity of the presentation cannot be a basis,” lawyer Dmitry Ivanov spoke in defense of Vyacheslav Kryukov. Other lawyers made similar arguments. The accused also asked the court to reduce their sentence of restraint.

In May, the Lublin City Court already extended the preventive measure for the defendants in the case until August 17, but that decision was overturned by the Moscow City Court.

On July 14, the debate on the “New Greatness” case began in the Lyublinsky District Court of Moscow. Previously they were transferred more than 10 times. The mothers of Anna Pavlikova, Maria Dubovik and Dmitry Poletaev were not allowed into the courtroom - they were watching what was happening on the broadcast. There are two new prosecutors in the case; their predecessors were diagnosed with coronavirus.

• In total, there are 10 defendants in the “New Greatness” case. Four of them - Vyacheslav Kryukov, Ruslan Kostylenkov, Pyotr Karamzin and Dmitry Poletaev - are in custody. Three more - Maria Dubovik, Anna Pavlikova and Maxim Roshchin - are under house arrest. Another defendant in the case, Sergei Gavrilov, who was under house arrest, left Russia. Due to violation of the conditions of house arrest, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention in absentia. Pavel Rebrovsky, whose case the Moscow City Courtsent for a new trial , is now under recognizance not to leave. Rustam Rustamov, who entered into a pre-trial agreement, was sentenced to two years of suspended imprisonment in March 2019.
• According to investigators, “New Greatness” is an extremist community whose members were preparing a coup. The defense is confident that the criminal case was the result of provocation on the part of the security forces.
