The Ministry of Transport planned to release driverless drones on the roads by 2024

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation has drawn up a plan to launch autonomous vehicles on the roads without the obligatory presence of an operator in the cabin. This was stated in the message of the ministry.

The Ministry of Transport expects to ensure the safe movement of drones on highways by 2024. The plan includes the development of a regulatory framework, including the procedure for investigating offenses involving drones.

A Yandex representative told RBC that the company's unmanned vehicles would be ready to hit the roads of "heavily loaded metropolitan centers" in "three to four years."

“The demand for transport and logistics services was growing even before the pandemic, but now it has only accelerated, and unmanned vehicles will help compensate for it,” RBC’s interlocutor said.

• In February 2020, a draft federal law on unmanned vehicles was prepared in Tatarstan . The document was planned to be sent to the State Duma.
