In Moscow, four obstetricians and gynecologists were detained in the case of trafficking in babies.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation asked the Basmanny Court of Moscow to arrest four obstetricians and gynecologists who were accused of trafficking in babies. A preventive measure will be chosen in the near future, court press secretary Irina Morozova told TASS .

“The court received a petition from the investigation to select a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to Chernyshov V.A., Ashitkov T.V., Ivanova Yu.Yu. and Panaioti L.R.,” Morozova said.

They were charged with human trafficking, “resulting through negligence in death, causing grave harm to the health of the victim, or other grave consequences, committed as part of an organized group” (Article 127.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The Baza Telegram channel writes that the detention of doctors is connected with the death of a baby in Odintsovo. In January, the body of a newborn boy was found in an apartment, and next to him were three other children along with a nanny from Ukraine, the channel claims. The child died from a birth injury; all children were born to surrogate mothers. Then the Investigative Committee opened a case of causing death by negligence and human trafficking, Baza clarifies.

At the end of June, five babies were found in an apartment in northeast Moscow . There were also two women with the children.

A source in medical circles told TASS that the babies found turned out to be surrogate children born to parents who were Chinese citizens. According to the source, documents in Russian and Chinese about the IVF procedures performed were found in the apartment. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on human trafficking.
