On July 7, the Leninsky District Court of Kursk extended the detention of local residents accused of an extremist organization due to their membership in the religious association Jehovah's Witnesses. The website “Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia” reports this.

Andrei Andreev, Artem Bagratyan and Alevtina Bagratyan will remain in the pre-trial detention center until September 11, Andrei Ryshkov - until September 9. They are accused under the article on organizing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code) and participation in it (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code).

Previously, the arrest of believers was extended in May.

On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. In August, all organizations of Jehovah's Witnesses were added to the list of prohibited organizations. After this, a stream of criminal cases against representatives of the confession began. In February 2019, the court handed down its first sentence with real imprisonment - Danish citizen Dennis Christensen was sentenced to six years in prison.

Jehovah's Witnesses from Kursk have had their detention in pre-trial detention center extended
