The editor-in-chief of the publication “Modern Kalmykia” Valery Badmaev told the “Caucasian Knot” that a police officer hit him after giving an explanation at the police department.

On July 20, Valery Badmaev went out on a solo picket in connection with the events in Khabarovsk. After the end of the action, the police invited him to the department, where they photographed a poster with the text “Glory to Khabarovsk residents! Wake up, peoples of Russia!” and took explanations.

In the department, one of the employees, a police lieutenant colonel, reproached Badmaev for supporting the ex-governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergei Furgal. “I began to explain to him that I do not support Furgal, but the Khabarovsk residents, who demand respect for themselves,” Badmaev clarified. The conversation continued and turned into a fierce argument, and as a result, Badmaev said, the policeman insulted him. After this, the journalist wanted to leave.

“And then this lieutenant colonel runs up and hits me on the shoulder with his fist: “No one will leave my office.” I was indignant and again turned to the captain, saying that you will be my witness. And he left. The lieutenant colonel shouted after him: “Take this idiot away, I can’t see him, and draw up a report on him.” We went down with the captain. He did not draw up a protocol, but asked for an explanation. I described everything that happened and left,” Caucasian Knot quotes Valery Badmaev as saying.

Another participant in the single picket in support of Furgal, Yabloko member Vladimir Dovdanov, also told the Caucasian Knot that after the action they asked him for an explanation.

• Since July 11, residents of the Khabarovsk Territory have been holding actions in support of Furgal. The procession on July 11 through the streets of Khabarovsk to the building of the regional government, according to various estimates, gathered from 5 to 35 thousand people. The police did not interfere with the protesters, and there were no arrests. Promotions are also taking place in other cities.
• At that time, the still acting governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, was detained on July 9 as part of a criminal case under article of murder. The next day, Furgal was sent to a pre-trial detention center until September, Mediazona reports . According to the prosecution, the official organized the murders and attempted murders of entrepreneurs in 2004–2005, when he himself was engaged in business. The Moscow City Court rejected an appeal against Furgal's arrest.
