On July 17, the Kirovsky District Court of Khabarovsk extended the arrest of Yegor Baranov, who is suspected of participating in an “extremist organization.” The website “Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia” reports this.

The court left 19-year-old Yegor Baranov in pre-trial detention for another two months - until September 25. He was placed in custody due to the fact that Baranov “has established strong religious views and is one of the leaders of this religious organization.” The decision remained in force on appeal.

In June, an FSB investigator for the Khabarovsk Territory obtained an unfounded ban on sending and receiving letters for Yegor Baranov.

On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. In August, all Jehovah's Witnesses organizations were added to the list of prohibited organizations. After this, a stream of criminal cases against representatives of the confession began.
In February 2019, the court handed down the first sentence in connection with the persecution of supporters of Jehovah's Witnesses with real imprisonment - Danish citizen Dennis Christensen was sentenced to six years in prison, his complaint was accepted for consideration by the ECHR. In June 2020, the court decided to release Christensen from the colony, replacing the remaining sentence with a fine, but in the colony he was twice placed in a punishment cell.
