Petersburg: The bike racket against the development of reserves began

The motto of the bike races - "Batary Bay - people and birds! There is no port and factory in your favorite bay!" Activists intend to drive 220 kilometers and visit the reserves of Lebyazhi, Bayanka, Kotelsky, Kurgalsky, Batary Bay, transferred without trading company Baltic Grain Terminal.

In the bay they want to build a terminal for the transportation of grain and a plant for the processing of oil and grain crops. Until 1997, the Batary Bay was part of the Swan Reserve. Here is one of the highest dunes of the Leningrad region, this is a place of rest of Petersburgers. Ecologists are opposed to the transformation of reserves into a industrial zone. Participants plan to hold a subbotnik in the reserve.

They will hold an “open campaign”, which will help residents of the region to contact the authorities with the requirements to refuse to build a production and logistics complex in Batary Bay. They want to demand a strategic environmental assessment of the Southern Bank of the Gulf of Finland and highlight the zones of possible industrial development, recreation and nature protection. Postcards will be transferred for signature to local residents and activists, and then sent to the Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and the St. Petersburg governor.

Participants in the mileage will visit the nuclear cluster of a pine boron, a warehouse complex of mineral fertilizers in Vistino, the port of Ust-Luga, the Nordstim-2 gas pipeline.

Oleg Bodrov, the chairman of the bike race of the Public Council of the Southern Council of the Gulf of Finland, believes that the shore is already overloaded with industrial and infrastructure facilities. According to him, the construction of new ones is a threat to both Lebyazhi reserve and nuclear objects of pine boron.

“We will talk with people about unresolved problems of decommissioning of the old nuclear power plant and the commissioning of new power blocks. And then we will go to Vistino and the Luzhskaya lip, where the situation is dramatic: the traditional occupation of the local population is lost, fishing arises, Gazprom is going to build a large gas mound plant,” he said.

Participants in the bike racket will visit the Kurgalsky reserve, cut in half by the Nordstrim-2 gas pipeline.

“The pipe was laid, and the small grid-shirt, excavating the migration of wild animals, remained, we want to achieve it to be removed,” said Oleg Bodrov.

The bike racket will last from July 25 to 29.
