The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the article on abuse of power against the former head of the Komi Republic Vyacheslav Gaiser. This is reported by TASS with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies.
Gaiser's lawyer Daria Evmenina confirmed this information. According to her, the case was opened in 2016, after which it was suspended, and active investigative actions began only now.
Gaiser's representative noted that he does not admit guilt. “This is a way of exerting pressure in order to convince Vyacheslav Mikhailovich [Gaizer] to admit his guilt, since the statute of limitations for criminal liability has long expired,” the lawyer said.
