On July 22, 2020, the court decision in the case of Yuri Alekseevich Dmitriev, head of the Karelian branch of the Memorial society, became known. He was sentenced to 3.5 years in a correctional colony and, taking into account the time spent in a pre-trial detention center, could be released in November. However, the next day it became known that the state prosecution intended to appeal the verdict. On the day the verdict was announced, dozens of colleagues, friends and acquaintances of Yu. A. and those simply not indifferent to his fate gathered at the building of the Petrozavodsk City Court, including those who came from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
