
On the website of the Change.org online patterns, a petition appeared with an appeal to assign the name of academician Andrei Ivanovich Vorobyov to the scientific center of hematology and one of the streets of Moscow.
On June 15, 2020, Andrei Ivanovich Vorobyov was gone. The first Minister of Health of Independent Russia, an academician at once, two academies of sciences-“big” and medical, he came to the institute of blood transfusion in the late 80s and in a quarter century made a hematological scientific center from it-a unique clinic and a world-class scientific center. The ingenious doctor who treated the Secretary Generals and presidents. The knight of mercy at the bed of any patient who needs help, even if other doctors abandoned him. “People should not die from cured diseases” - these are Vorobyov’s words.
What did Andrey Ivanovich Vorobyov do?
In the mid-60s, he first began to study the genetic aspects of hemoblastoses (blood system tumors), and later their molecular biological features.
In the late 60s of the twentieth century, he formulated the rules of tumor progression for hemoblastoses, allowing to optimize the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
In 1973, he proposed a new scheme of hematopoiesis, which until now is the main in the world, created the theory of changing cell layers in ontogenesis.
In the 70s of the twentieth century, for the first time in Russia, the effective treatment of acute leukemia in children and lymphogranulomatosis began with an efficiency of at least 50% cure (later than 90%), for the first time proposed the prevention of metastases into the central nervous system (neuroleakemia) through the introduction of cytostatics into the cerebrospinal canal.
In the zero years, he developed a multicomponent scheme of aggressive polychemotherapy, which allows to cure up to 90% of some species with lymphosarka and lymphogranulomatosis.
In the 60-70s, he developed fundamentally new approaches to evaluating the radiation doses received during radiation accidents-biological dosimetry-no analogues in the world, and provided assistance to victims in radiation accidents.
He developed fundamentally new approaches to the treatment of sepsis and septic shock using the methods of comprehensive therapy for intravascular blood coagulation syndrome.
He developed and introduced methods for obtaining platelet concentrate to provide patients receiving cytostatic therapy and after radiation accidents.
He stood at the origins of bone marrow transplantation in our country.
For the first time, he scientifically substantiated and introduced into practice therapy components of donated blood, refusing to transfuse whole blood.
He introduced the obligatory quarantine of donor plasma into the country's blood service, which allowed to avoid infection of HIV infection of recipients, contributed to the appearance of multi-ton refrigeration chambers for quarantine in most blood transfusion stations.
On the basis of the hematological scientific center, he created drugs of coagulation factors VIII and IX for the treatment of patients with hemophilia.
He stood at the origins of the creation of the service of assistance to patients with hemophilia, including the introduction of coagulation factors and conducting the operations on the affected joints in the conditions of severe coagulopathy.
He created an exit emergency hematological care for patients with bleeding and other coagulopathy in Moscow.
He stood at the origins of the introduction of medical plasmapheresis in healthcare practice.
He led the provision of assistance to the victims in the Chernobyl accident, with his participation, three centers of such assistance were created in Moscow-the 6th, 7th and 15th hospitals.
He created a brigade to assist the victims of an earthquake in Armenia, sent it to Yerevan and provided transfusiological assistance, which allowed us to save life, not to produce amputations of the limbs, to prevent the development of severe complications (acute renal failure) from hundreds extracted from the rubble. The same brigade was sent to assist the victims of the fire in trains near Ufa.
He played a key role in the treatment of the leaders of our state and foreign friends of the country: Yu.V. Andropov, K.U. Chernenko, B.N. Yeltsin, H. Bumeden, Ho Shi Min and many others.
The author of the "Guide to Hematology" (three publications over 40 years) is the Basic Book of Russian Hematology.
