More than 1.4 thousand Siberians with coronavirus died

The number of patients with coronavirus in Siberia exceeded 78 thousand. More than 1.4 thousand patients died in the regions.

The number of new confirmed cases of coronavirus infection per day was 853. The total number of cases reached 78328, follows from the data of regional headquarters on August 2.

During the day, 17 people died (six patients in the Novosibirsk region, three each in the Irkutsk, Omsk regions and Altai Territory, one each in the Tomsk region and the Altai Republic). Thus, in total in Siberia, according to Taiga.info, at least 1,417 people died.

Rosstat data shows that authorities do not always report coronavirus-related deaths. Most of all, the statistics were underestimated in the Novosibirsk and Omsk regions. The Novosibirsk Minister of Health argued that the delay between the actual death and its inclusion in the statistics could be two to three weeks.

In Russia, more than 850.87 thousand infected, 14128 people died, about 650.1 thousand recovered. The country ranked second or third in the world in terms of the number of cases, but the death rate officially announced by the authorities is much lower than in other states with a similar number of cases . Now Russia is in fourth place.

Against this background, Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted the federal “non-working days” regime, which replaced quarantine, from May 12, transferring all restrictions to the regional level, and also announced a parade on June 24 in honor of the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. Putin also scheduled a "nationwide vote" on July 1 to change the constitution, which would now allow him to run for president until 2036.
