In Russia, the new GOST for car numbers finally entered into force

On August 4, a new standard for cars, motorcycles and other vehicles finally entered into force in Russia. This was reported by RIA Novosti in Rosstandart, clarifying that the fonts and format of the main types of signs will remain unchanged.

Recall that the new GOST for registration signs was prepared in the fall of 2018. At first it was assumed that he would enter into force on January 1, 2019, but the traffic police asked Rosstandart to transfer the term to August 4, 2019 in connection with the contracts for the supply of old -style numbers. In July 2019, the traffic police and the Ministry of Agriculture reported the strategic reserve of already manufactured signs of the old model. Because of this, Rosstandart issued an order that extended the action of the old GOST on the numbers of vehicles: during the year two GOSTs acted simultaneously, but now only the new GOST remained in force.

This standard introduces ten new types of registration signs. So, reduced numbers that can be installed on foreign motorcycles are available to motorcyclists. GOST also describes the standard number of license plates that can be installed on the rear platforms of Japanese and American cars with a non -standard room mount, including right -hand drive cars. In August last year, the traffic police allowed owners of motorcycles and cars with non -standard sites to install numbers of a new sample.

GOST provides for separate numbers for off -road motor vehicles not intended for traffic on public roads (snowballs, motorized vehicles), as well as mopeds, sports and classic (retro) vehicles. Such numbers will begin to issue such numbers after the approval of regulatory legal acts regulating the procedure for registering these types of vehicles.
