In Yekaterinburg, a deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation was fined for collecting signatures

The Leninsky District Court found Andrei Pirozhkov, a deputy of the City Duma from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, guilty under the article on organizing an uncoordinated action (part 2 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) due to the collection of signatures for the return of direct elections of the mayor. This is reported by MBKh Media with reference to lawyer Anton Kosachev.

Pirozhkov was fined 20,000 rubles.

• Pirozhkov and two other signature collectors Maxim Vernikov and Aleksey Karamuzin were detained in Yekaterinburg on 4 August. The police officers said that the campaign cubes, in which the activists collected signatures, are collapsible structures that fall under the Federal Law on actions.
• In the department, protocols were drawn up on the detainees under the article on violation of the rules for participation in the action (Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). The interests of Vernikov and Karamuzin were defended by a lawyer from OVD-Info, Irina Ruchko.
• According to Interfax, the last direct election of the mayor of Yekaterinburg in 2013 was won by Yevgeny Roizman. In April 2018, the regional legislature approved a law abolishing the mayoral election. Roizman resigned, unwilling to support such changes to the city charter.
