Car sales in July exceeded last year's figure
The Russian car market in July showed signs of recovery, follows from the report of the Association of European Businesses (AEB).

Sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles rose 6.8% year-on-year to 141,924 units last month.

For the period from January to July, sales decreased by 19.3% to 742,681 vehicles, which is less than the AEB forecast for the year (minus 23.9%).

Of the top 3 automakers, growth in July was shown by AvtoVAZ (+6%, 31.18 thousand) and Hyundai (+3%, 14.31 thousand). Sales of KIA decreased by 4% to 18.03 thousand units.

In the top 10, sales of Skoda (+69%), Volkswagen (+29%) and Nissan (+34%) increased.
- Lada Granta remained the best-selling model in Russia, sales of which increased by 7.5% to 11.45 thousand. In second place is Lada Vesta, in third is Hyundai Creta.
“With +6.8%, July was the first month of this year with significant growth compared to the previous year, indicating signs of a long-awaited recovery in the market,” said Thomas Stärzel, chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee. He sees the reason in demand deferred due to self-isolation, the weakening of the ruble and state support, and notes the high uncertainty of further dynamics.
