Twitter allowed users to choose those who can comment on their posts

Twitter allowed users to limit the number of people who can respond to their tweets, the company’s official blog says . The new function was introduced so that "unwanted answers do not interfere with the meaningful conversation."

Now, before publishing a message on Twitter, the user will be able to choose one of three privacy options. The first - standard - provides that everyone can answer tweet without exception. In the second case, only the people on whom the user is signed will be able to leave a comment. The third option gives the right to answer only to those who are mentioned in the post.

Russian users have already begun to come up with various surveys and put the restriction “those who are mentioned in the post” without mentioning anyone. This “flash mob” was paid attention to by TJournal. It gives as examples to posts with the questions “What is one reason not to love the Hawaiian pizza” or “What are at least one reason to continue to sit in VK”. These posts remain rhetorical, because by virtue of the settings, none of the users can answer them.

However, the rest of the functions are still preserved.

“People who cannot answer will still be able to view, retweet, retweet with comments, share and like these tweets,” the Twitter administration notes.

The innovation is already operating both web versions and in mobile applications for iOS and Android.

“New settings help some people feel more security and can lead to a more meaningful conversation, but at the same time allow people to see different points of view,” the company assures.

During testing, users informed the developers that they were protected from spam and insults. According to the observations of developers, tweets with new settings on topical topics, such as politicians, the Black Lives Matter and Covid-19 movement, turned out to be longer than messages without restrictions.

In the coming months, the Twitter team plans to add the opportunity to invite more people to the conversation and, conversely, block invitations to connect to discussion.

The company announced this innovation in January 2020, testing of a new function was carried out in May.
