Novaya Gazeta and its editor-in-chief were fined 260 thousand rubles for an article about coronavirus in a military unit

The magistrate of court district No. 359 of the Basmanny district of Moscow, Yunona Tsareva, fined Novaya Gazeta 200 thousand rubles and its editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov 60 thousand rubles because of a text about coronavirus infections in the military unit of the Northern Fleet in the closed city of Zaozersk. This was reported by MBKh Media.

Two protocols under the article on fakes (Part 9, Article 13.15 of the Criminal Code) against Novaya Gazeta and its editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov were drawn up due to the material by Valery Shiryaev “Whistle all up” dated April 5.

The Prosecutor General's Office demanded that information about coronavirus infection among employees of two nuclear submarines, Voronezh and Smolensk, be removed from Shiryaev's article. Representatives of the newspaper insisted at the meeting that the publication only mentioned the removal of boats from quarantine.

Roskomnadzor also drew up two more protocols because of Elena Milashina’s article about the unpreparedness of Chechen hospitals for the coronavirus, which was criticized by the head of the republic Ramzan Kadyrov. Meetings on them were also scheduled for August 17.
