In the Bashkir city of Ishimbay, police detained three people during yesterday’s spontaneous rally for the resignation of the head of the district, who was seen dispersing the defenders of the Kushtau Shikhan. This was reported by Ufa1.ru with reference to a source.

For three people, a 59-year-old woman and two men, 44 and 48 years old, protocols were drawn up for violating the rules of behavior at mass rallies (Part 5, Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code). Reports of disobedience to police orders were also drawn up against two participants in the rally (Part 1, Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences).

On August 17, several hundred residents of Ishimbay came to the administration building and demanded the resignation of the head of the district, Azamat Abdrakhmanov. Defenders of Kushtau, who opposed the development of the mountain for lime mining, recognized Abdrakhmanov as a man in military uniform and a medical mask, who led the actions of security guards and riot police against activists, overturned tents and pushed people aside. “I’m in my area, and you’re visitors,” quoted him as saying. Abdrakhmanov called the rally in Ishimbay not spontaneous, but “a planned and thoughtful action.” During the rally, several firecrackers were thrown into the administration courtyard, the official claimed on his VKontakte page. He did not comment on the accusations of participation in the dispersal of the Kushtau defenders’ camp. The district administration clarified to Ufa1.ru that Abdrakhmanov is now on vacation.

The head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, at a meeting with activists on August 16, where he announced the suspension of work on the Shikhan, said that he would not dismiss Abdrakhmanov, since Kushtau is “his land.” After the rally on August 17 in Ishimbay, Khabirov said that he again saw no reason to fire an official who “received threats to burn his car.” “Show him how he hit a woman, a child, he’ll fly out right away,” Khabirov added , inviting “men from both sides to forgive each other and close this story.”
