The Supreme Court of Bashkortostan reduced the terms of administrative arrest for three activists who defended the tires of Kushtau. This was reported by Ural. MBH Media".
The court reduced the sentence for Ilnur Ilyasov and Aidar Gafarov from 7 to 5 days, and for another activist Rim Bakirov from 13 to 7 days. All of them were charged with disobedience to a lawful demand of a police officer (Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code).
- Radiy Khabirov, the head of Bashkiria, at the end of 2018 decided to develop Kushtau. On the evening of August 17, Khabirov said that he was ready to meet with activists from the tent camp, and called the situation around the shihan a “serious crisis,” and also proposed creating a coordination council with the participation of activists, members of the HRC, the government of the republic and representatives of the Bashkir Soda Company.
- Shikhan Kushtau is a small mountain in the Ishimbay region of Bashkortostan. Local activists have been fighting for several months against deforestation for the development of soda and limestone deposits in the territory of Kushtau. Starting in August, work in the protected natural area resumed . Activists advocate the preservation of natural monuments, the remaining shikhans of Toratau, Kushtau, Yuraktau. The previously existing shihan of Shakhtau was completely destroyed to obtain raw materials by the Bashkir Soda Company.
- On August 15, more than 70 people were detained near the Kushtau defenders’ camp. Those detained were sentenced to administrative arrests and fines.
