VKontakte blocked large feminist public sites for discrimination

The social network VKontakte blocked large feminist public pages “Wrong Feminism” and “Overheard Feminism” for discrimination. “Dvach” and “Lepra” drew attention to this.

Before the blocking, “Wrong Feminism” had more than 13 thousand subscribers, and “Overheard Feminism” had more than 31 thousand subscribers. Lepra linked the blocking of public pages to the fact that VKontakte began to fight hate speech.

“Such Things” contacted the social network’s press service for comment.

On August 20, VKontakte reported that it was working on artificial intelligence to automatically recognize materials with hostile statements. The new neural network is designed to quickly find materials with hostile statements and publications that provoke the audience to show aggression.

Also, with the help of this technology, VKontakte hopes to speed up the processing time for complaints and help users of the social network less often encounter manifestations of intolerance.
