Protest participants detained in Khabarovsk

In Khabarovsk, police detained activist Valentin Kvashnikov. He was taken to police department No. 5. Local activists told OVD-Info that the reason for the detention could be the action on August 22, which Kvashnikov was not present at.

A lawyer from OVD-Info, Andrei Bityutsky, went to see the detainee.

18:19 Valentin Kvashnikov was released on an undertaking to appear at the Central District Court of Khabarovsk by 13:30 on August 26. A report was drawn up against him under the article on obstructing traffic (Part 6.1, Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code).

In addition, it became known that two more people, Valery and Yulia, were detained because of the daily march in support of ex-governor Sergei Furgal.

The detainees were taken to police department No. 4, the police filed a report against Valery under the article of obstructing traffic (Part 6.1 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code). He was kept in police custody overnight; his trial is scheduled to take place on August 26 in the Central District Court. It is unknown what Yulia is charged with.

Heading changed due to new arrests

• Previously, Kvashnikov was fined 10 thousand rubles under the article on participation in an uncoordinated action that resulted in interference with the movement of pedestrians and transport (Part 6.1 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code), in connection with the action on July 23. He was also found guilty under the article of petty hooliganism (Part 1 of Article 20.1 of the Administrative Code) in connection with his arrest on July 26: then, after a meeting between Acting Governor Mikhail Degtyarev and residents, Kvashnikov was attacked by unknown persons in civilian clothes, after which he was detained by the police.
• Since July 11, residents of the Khabarovsk Territory have been holding actions in support of ex-governor Sergei Furgal, who was arrested on suspicion of organizing murders. The procession on July 11 through the streets of Khabarovsk to the building of the regional government, according to various estimates, gathered from 5 to 35 thousand people. The police did not interfere with the protesters, and there were no arrests.
• The then-current governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, was detained on July 9 by FSB officers on suspicion of involvement in a number of contract killings. He was taken to Moscow, where, by decision of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow, he was placed in custody until September 9. On July 16, the Moscow City Court rejected the appeal of Furgal’s defense and recognized this decision as legal. On July 20, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Furgal’s resignation from the post of governor and appointed Furgal’s fellow party member in the LDPR, Mikhail Degtyarev, to this post as interim, Mediazona reported .
