The oldest company will be removed from Dow Jones

from the US Dow Jones Industrial Average has been excluded ExxonMobil, the oil company ExxonMobil, . She has been on this list since 1928. Exxon's removal would leave Dow with only one energy company, Chevron, and solidify its dominance by technology companies.

In addition to ExxonMobil, pharmaceutical company Pfizer and weapons supplier Raytheon will leave the index. Pfizer has been on the index since 2004, and Raytheon this year completed a merger with United Technologies, which has been a member of the index since 1939.

The companies dropping out of the index will be replaced by cloud software provider Salesforce, biotech company Amgen and conglomerate Honeywell International.

In recent years, the composition of the Dow has changed very rarely. While Apple was added in 2015 and Nike and Goldman Sachs were added in 2013, most of the Dow companies on Monday have remained in the index for more than 10 years.

As the Financial Times explains, a major refresh of the Dow's line-up is due to Apple's upcoming Aug. 31 share split — each share will be split into four to make it more accessible to investors. Now Apple has the largest share in the index - 12%, but after the share split, its share will fall to 3%.

Changes are reflected in share prices. Dow exit Exxon shed 2.3% in additional trading on Monday, Pfizer shed 1.3% and Raytheon shed 3%. Shares entering the index Salesforce.com rose 3%, Amgen - 4%, Honeywell International - 3.9%.
