Sony Pictures has published a trailer for the drama "Tsoi", directed by Alexei Uchitel.
The plot of the picture is a fictional story that occurred after the death of the leader of the Kino group Viktor Tsoi in a car accident in Latvia in August 1990. The main character is Pavel Shelest (played by Yevgeny Tsyganov), the driver of the Ikarus, who collided with the musician's car. It also fell to him to become a bus driver carrying a coffin with the body of a musician and his relatives and friends to the funeral from Riga to Leningrad (they are shown in the film as collective images under other names).
“Pavel Shelest was the right guy. Didn't like sharp turns. Always tried to do the right thing. But he was not lucky. On August 15, 1990, on the hot Sloka-Talsi highway, Viktor Tsoi's Moskvich crashed into his bus. The idol of millions died on the spot. Pavel did not know anything about Tsoi, did not listen to his songs. He also did not know that after this fatal collision, his life would never be the same again, ”the description for the trailer says.
In addition to Tsyganov, Maryana Spivak, Paulina Andreeva, Nadezhda Kaleganova, Ilya Del, Igor Vernik, Masha Peresild, Inga Tropa, Arturs Skrastinsh, Vitaly Kovalenko starred in the film. Viktor Tsoi himself appears in the film only on archival footage taken from Alexei Uchitel's documentaries "Rock" and "The Last Hero".
The release of the film "Tsoi" was supposed to start on September 3, but at a press conference on August 27, Alexei Uchitel announced that the release of the film had been postponed indefinitely.
In an interview with Kommersant, Uchitel said that he received written claims about the film from the National Music Publishing House, which, on behalf of Viktor Tsoi's family, manages his legacy. “The Ministry of Culture has issued us a rental certificate, and we can release the film on the big screen even now. But there is a controversial field around the film, and we will have to do something about it, ”he explained.
According to Alexei Uchitel, he has the moral right to his own vision and opinion, since he was personally acquainted with Viktor Tsoi. “But there is what I call “additional censorship” from the family. And we should not forget, not a biopic. And we are talking about the interpretation of images, which, of course, is the prerogative of the author of the film. It is strange that this is not clear to anyone, ”the director added.
