Three participants in protests in support of Furgal were detained in Khabarovsk

Police in Khabarovsk detained three participants in mass protests against the arrest of ex-governor of the region Sergei Furgal. The detainees themselves reported this to OVD-Info.

Civil activists Albina Chuikova and Evgeny Mazikin were in a car near Chuikova’s house when police approached them and said that they were allegedly not wearing a seat belt. Mazikeen was fined on the spot and released. Chuikova was taken to police department No. 7. It is not yet known what she is charged with. A lawyer from OVD-Info, Andrei Bityutsky, went to see her.

At the same time, Evgeny, as he told OVD-Info, had previously received a call from the police and demanded that he come to the department. Local activists also told OVD-Info that the police also detained Eduard Balagurov and took him to the 7th police department. The data is being clarified.

17:15 Albina Chuikova became ill at the police department, as she has a chronic illness, reports OVD-Info legal assistance coordinator Alla Frolova.

The police initially refused to call her an ambulance. Chuikova was hospitalized only after the intervention of the prosecutor on duty. A protocol was drawn up against her under the article on participation in an uncoordinated action that resulted in interference with the movement of pedestrians and vehicles (Part 6.1 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code). In this regard, she was taken from the hospital and taken to a special detention center. It is unknown what conditions will be there, while Chuikova needs regular nutrition.

Chuikova was scheduled for a hearing in the Central District Court on August 28, 11:00. She will be represented by lawyer from OVD-Info Andrey Bityutsky.

A report was drawn up against Eduard Balagurov under a similar article and he was released. He was required to appear in the same court at 9 am. He will be defended by OVD-Info lawyer Andrey Demidov.

• Since July 11, residents of the Khabarovsk Territory have been holding actions in support of ex-governor Sergei Furgal, who was arrested on suspicion of organizing murders. The procession on July 11 through the streets of Khabarovsk to the building of the regional government, according to various estimates, gathered from 5 to 35 thousand people. The police did not interfere with the protesters, and there were no arrests.
• The then-current governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, was detained on July 9 by FSB officers on suspicion of involvement in a number of contract killings. He was taken to Moscow, where, by decision of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow, he was placed in custody until September 9. On July 16, the Moscow City Court rejected the appeal of Furgal’s defense and recognized this decision as legal. On July 20, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Furgal’s resignation from the post of governor and appointed Furgal’s LDPR party member Mikhail Degtyarev to this post as acting.
