The project of the North Realia is a year. On September 1, 2019, we began our work: hundreds of reports, interviews, thousands of news about the most important and vivid events of the region. Kaliningrad, Pskov, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Vologda, Karelia, Komi, Nao, Leningrad region and St. Petersburg- the life of our north was rich in a variety of events. Journalists who live in these regions, in whom all this are happening at home, around the corner, tell about them on our website. And therefore, by the way, they cannot lie about what is happening and silence something: it will be a shame to look into the eyes of the neighbors.

The first year of the life of any project is not easy. Nevertheless, the site took place.

Secret tests with victims

It so happened that the launch of our project coincided with events in the North Selo of Nonox . In August 2019, an explosion occurred here. The Russian authorities recognized the fact of the explosion, the short -term ejection of the radiation and the death of people - five employees of Rosatom and two military personnel. Official messages said that it occurred when testing new equipment with an "isotopic power source." About what kind of technique it is, however, was not officially reported. In various investigations, different versions were called, up to the explosion of the "Petrel" rocket itself.

After the explosion, pontoons phoned with radiation sailed in Neogons. Then, the locals said, a real panic reigned on the shores of the Dvinsky Gulf - no one imagined what consequences the disaster would lead to.

The head of Severodvinsk Igor Skubenko reassured the locals :

- Today, the whole range of information and documents that is at my disposal allows you to say: you can feel calmly, no reason to concern from the point of view of the radiation background and indicators for all the samples that have already been taken here.

Severodvinsky journalist Nikolai Karneevich , along with a group of local residents, however, could approach the recordly close distance to the pontoons, which were near the shore after the explosion on August 8, - about 150 meters. The results of his measurements were shown by: 70–154 micro Borentgen per hour with a natural radiation background of 20 micro Borentgen.

Today they do not like to remember those events in Nyonoks. People say that the village continues to live its leisurely life: they eat fish, they collect mushrooms. Although this summer, in July, the inhabitants of the Neyins again asked for several days to leave the village due to the military tests.

Coronavirus and Fakes

2020 has not yet ended, but has already entered history in the most unusual way. The usual globalization and transparency of the world was suddenly replaced by insulation, empty streets, closed boundaries and the impossibility of any mass communications, with the exception of virtual. The Covid-19, which paralyzed at the beginning of the year in China, reached Europe in February, and in the spring-to Russia.

Closing borders, the work of doctors, helping volunteers , losses of business - our correspondents wrote about all this without leaving home. Despite the self-isolation, we were one of the first to talk about the outbreak of coronavirus in the Ezhvinsky hospital of Syktyvkar and the first victims of the Covid-19, about the focus of the sick on the construction site of Novatek in Murmansk, we talked about the conditions in which doctors and ambulance drivers in the regions of the north-west, talked with doctors who were unfinished who were underplaimed Promised by the president of the allowance for working with viral patients, with those who could not return home due to the abolished flights and closed boundaries.

Despite such pressure, the North. Reali continues to write about the situation with coronavirus in the country: about its influence and the consequences of the life of Russians. As the economist Natalya Zubarevich said in a recent interview , the people for the quarantine period were “suffered a lot”, therefore, if there is a second wave of the virus, then there will be no such large -scale quarantine measures - "the economy of the second one cannot withstand such."

The echo of the Arkhangelsk explosion, which thundered in the reception of the FSB before the birth of the site (17-year-old anarchist Mikhail Zhlobitsky undermined himself on October 31, 2018), accompanies North. Realia to this day. Our region has become the main supplier of the accused under Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - an excuse for terrorism . In Pskov, however, one more case has begun and investigated this article - against Alexei Shibanov . The investigation is only collecting evidence of his guilt. Already after the report of the North. Another heroine of our publications , a resident of Karelia, Ekaterina Muranova , has already passed an appeal and paid a fine of 350 thousand rubles awarded to her as a post about Zhlobitsky. She still lives in Medvezhyegorsk, she never found work. But Katya is continued by friends on social networks.

In Kaliningrad, the case of Lyudmila Stech is being investigated - its "justification of terrorism" consisted in the repost of the publication of an anarchist group by the anniversary of the undermining of Zlobitsky. In Koryazhma (Arkhangelsk Region), Oleg Germans are preparing for the court .

What unites Pskov, Veliky Novgorod, Vologda, Arkhangelsk besides administrative borders? These are the most ancient cities of Russia. Where else to learn national culture, if not here. St. Petersburg is a separate pearl. A special place is occupied by Kaliningrad, a former Königsberg, with his German castles , Kirschi and Fortes .

But what we have, we do not store: the state is accustomed to finance culture and restoration on the residual principle. In Pskov, whose monuments a year ago were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, enthusiasts save the frescoes according to the sketches of Nikolai Roerich in a small Anastasievsky chapel . We talked about how the Roerich Foundation is trying to raise money for restoration. The work gradually begins. At the end of August, specialists of inter-regional scientific and restoration art management glued fragments of plaster , which several months ago collapsed from the lower part of the northern wall of the Anastasievsky chapel as a result of the release of salts. After the start of full -scale work, they will be returned to the place, the fund reports. The fundraising continues.

It is equally important to keep the memory of famous fellow countrymen, but then it is not enough enthusiasm. In May, we talked about how the authorities of St. Petersburg fought with graffiti in honor of the 80th anniversary of the poet Joseph Brodsky . In Cherepovets, they still could not erect a monument to another great, albeit less famous poet and musician Alexander Bashlachev. This year he would have turned 60 years old .

With a world on a thread

Where the state is powerless, neighbors, acquaintances and strangers come to the rescue. 2019 we ended with a story about how easily and simply good deeds are done - literally on the stream.

With the beginning of the epidemic, we were convinced of this again. When it turned out that the doctors working with Covid were practically not protected , citizens and public organizations began to collect money and purchase Sizes themselves. True, the authorities saw politics here: for example, in the Novgorod region, the police tried not to miss the cargo from the "Alliance of Doctors" to the district hospitals.

Sometimes ordinary people together manage to accomplish a miracle. We wrote the story of Milan Semenkova from Kaliningrad-a two-year-old girl who is sick with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). This is a dangerous genetic disease that kills slowly and painfully. There is already a medicine, but it costs more than two million dollars that Milan's parents collected.

And they collected them!

The information campaign, accompanied by the collection, forced the authorities of the Kaliningrad region to purchase Spinraise for both Milan and another patient of the child.

A month and a half has passed since the injection of the drug Zolgensma intravenously and a little more than three - after the first administration of Spinraise into the spinal cord. Rehabilitation is difficult.

Dmitriev’s case

On July 22 this year, the Petrozavodsk City Court found the guilty of Karelian historian Yuri Dmitriev in sexual violence against a minor adopted daughter. The court sentenced him to 3.5 years in prison, instead of 15, which required a state prosecution. Human rights activists are confident that Dmitriev’s case is an attempt to reckon the hatred of the researcher of Stalinist repressions and the work that he has been engaged in his life: the search for places of executions of political prisoners.

Actress Leah Akhedzhakova came to Petrozavodsk to support Yuri Dmitrieva.
