A participant in protests in Ingushetia has his arrest extended

The Nalchik City Court extended until September 25 the detention in the pre-trial detention center for Zaurbek Dzaurov, who is accused of using violence against police officers during the dispersal of a protest in Ingushetia. This is reported by the publication "Fortanga" with reference to the lawyer Hussein Guliyev.

According to the lawyer, the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee for the North Caucasian Federal District again filed a petition to extend the guard. “The investigation is being dragged out, because the previously appointed experts could not answer the questions posed,” the lawyer said.

Zaurbek Dzaurov was detained on March 7, 2020 at his cousin's house in Nazran. Prior to that, he was on the federal wanted list. He is accused of using dangerous violence against government officials (Part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code) at a rally in Magas in 2019. He was also suspected of calling for mass riots and participation in them, but as a result, these charges were not brought. Since March 2020, Dzaurov has been in custody.

On March 26, 2019, about 10 thousand people came to the rally in Magas. About two thousand protesters remained on the square all night. In the morning they began to be dispersed, as a result of which clashes broke out between the security forces and the protesters .
• According to the Human Rights Center Memorial, as of March 27, 2020, 41 people were prosecuted in the case of the Ingush protests in March 2019 in Magas. More than 20 of them have already been convicted by the court under the article on the use of non-life-threatening violence against a police officer (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code).
