A court in Moscow extended the detention of ex-governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergei Furgal

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow extended for three months, until December 9, the detention of ex-governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergei Furgal, accused of organizing murders and attempted murder. This was reported by MBKh Media.

The hearing was held behind closed doors: the prosecution asked the court to do so, writes MBKH Media. The prosecution believes that the case materials contain secrets protected by law, and also claims that some participants in the process asked for protection.

Sergei Furgal and his lawyer Boris Kozhemyakin objected to holding the meeting behind closed doors. Furgal drew the court's attention to the public outcry in connection with his case. He said his constituents have a right to know what is happening to him.

The politician, as reported by MBKH Media, added that he considers the criminal case to be politically motivated. Furgal also spoke about the pressure on him and his relatives from the security forces:

There is pressure on me and my relatives. The senior investigator threatened that if I did not enter into a pre-trial agreement, then my ex-wife and adopted daughter would be held accountable. My family is being forced to testify against me

On September 2, the Investigative Committee also announced that Furgal had been charged with a new charge: organizing the murder of businessman Igor Zori.

Now Furgal is accused of organizing the murders of entrepreneurs Evgeny Zori and Oleg Bulatov and the attempted murder of Alexander Smolsky (clauses “a”, “b”, “g”, “h”, “k”, part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code using part 3 Article 33 of the Criminal Code and paragraphs “b”, “h” of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code using Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 3 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code).

On September 18, the Moscow City Court upheld the arrest of Sergei Furgal, MBKH Media reports .

The meeting was held behind closed doors, the reasons for this were not specified. “The fact that this is a closed meeting is infuriating. I have nothing to hide,” Furgal commented.
