On September 3, the SN6 prototype SN6 StarsHip, which is developing by the American company SpaceX made a test flight at a height of 150 meters, and then landed next to the launch pad. The launch broadcast was carried out on the NASASPACEFLight YouTube channel.
Recall that the STARSHIP ship is developed by SpaceX as a second step for the future super -heavy rocket designed to deliver people and goods to Mars. Also, modified versions of StarsHip are planned to be used in the NASA program to return American astronauts to the moon, and earlier, SpaceX promised to create passenger missiles for transporting people between remote cities on the basis of Starship.
The StarsHIP prototypes testing program provides for checking fuel tanks for high pressure resistance (cryogenic assault tests), fire tests on Earth and taking a height of 150 meters with subsequent landing. SN6, equipped with one Raptor engine, has become the second prototype of Starship, which passed all these tests (about a month ago, the SN5 prototype succeeded ). Immediately after taking the rocket, the rocket began to bend and move to the side, but since the engine has a deflected traction vector, it compensated the displacement, and the rocket flew almost vertically upwards. Then the device for a short time hung at one height and began to decrease, which ended with a soft landing.

Previously, the tests of the four StarsHip prototypes ended in accidents. During cryogenic tests, the accident occurred with the Starship MK1 prototype in November last year, the SN1 prototype at the end of February and the SN3 prototype in early April. The SN4 prototype exploded in late May during the next fire tests.
Last year, SpaceX collected a reduced Starship prototype called Starhopper. The main program of this prototype successfully ended in August after it rose to a height of 150 meters, and then landed. Now he acts as a stand for static testing of Raptor engines. Earlier, Ilon Musk said that the company plans to send the Starship prototype to orbit in 2020, but now the first full launch of the final version of the rocket is pre -appointed for 2021, and before that SpaceX hopes to send Starship at least a few kilometers, writes N+1 .
