22-year-old Pavel Sveshnikov died after losing consciousness at the Moscow Grand Prix, which took place on the Krylatskoye cycle track. “He was on the turn, and fell there. He was carried on a stretcher. A reanimation car drove up, but he was not saved,” said Vyacheslav Ekimov TASS , president of the bicycle sport Federation of Russia.

“I noticed that he was on the turn at the top, he had no speed. He thought that he would fall now, so it happened. He was crushed, but this is not the injury that we are talking about. In the end, he was ill, and he lost his mind on the bicycle, why he fell,” added Ekimov.

According to the head of the federation, at first the athlete tried to help a medical team, seconded to the competition. “Then he was taken out on the parking lot on a stretcher. The resuscitation arrived in 10-15 minutes. All the actions were carried out there already, but in the end nothing helped,” Ekimov concluded.

Sveshnikov at the Russian Cycling Championship on the 2018 track took second place in Madison, at the Russian Cup - 2019 he became a winner in the race for points.

The final day of the Moscow Grand Prix for bicycle traffic was decided to cancel because of the death of the athlete. This morning, the competition participants will come to the bicycle track to honor the memory of Pavel Sveshnikov with a minute of silence.
