
US President Donald Trump at a press conference in Washington said that he would support the termination of the construction of the Northern Stream-2 gas pipeline due to the likely poisoning of Russian opposition Alexei Navalny. The head of the White House recalled that before the incident with Navalny opposed this project.
According to Trump, Berlin will pay billions of dollars to Moscow. At the same time, the United States, like NATO Member Country, must protect Germany from Russia.
Earlier on Monday, September 7, the representative of the German Chancellor said that Angela Merkel does not exclude that the situation around the alleged poisoning of Navalny could affect the fate of the Northern Stream - 2 from Russia to Germany. In Berlin, they are still waiting for an answer from Moscow to questions regarding what happened to Navalny.
Earlier, Merkel stated that Navalny’s poisoning should not be linked with the Northern Stream 2 project. The day before, the head of the German Foreign Ministry, the day before, admitted that the German government could reconsider its approach to the gas pipeline - depending on the behavior of Moscow.
The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov on Monday said that Moscow does not see the risks that Germany will leave the Northern Stream 2 project.
