Ronald Harwood (the real name of Horvitz) was born in the South African Cape Town in 1934 in the family of Lithuanian Jews. At 17, he moved to England, where he planned to receive an acting education, but later he began to write. He published his first novel “All the same Shadows” in 1961. The following year, Harwood wrote the first script for the Private Potter film.
Over the 65 years of work, Harwood created scenarios for more than 40 paintings, including costumer (1983), Pianist (2003), Oliver Twist (2005), Therapy (2012), “Squandr and Babochka” (2007) and “Australia” (2008).
Harwood was nominated three times for the Oscar for the films “Costomus”, “Squandr and butterfly” and “Pianist”. In 2003, he was awarded the figurines for the best adapted script for the “pianist”, and in 2008 he received the prize of the British Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (Baffa) in the same category for work on “spacesuit and butterfly”. In 2010, Harwood was dedicated to knights.
