FOM: Almost 40% of Russians approve of Lukashenko’s actions, which "lifts the country from the knees"

The actions of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in relation to the opposition and protesters supported 39% of Russians. This is evidenced by the results of the survey published on the website of the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM).

More than half (55%) of those who believe that the Belarusian leader acts correctly - Russians under the age of 60 years. They called the reason for their conviction that Lukashenko is a good president who cares about the country and people, and also acts within the framework of the law. In addition, they stated that under the current conditions it is necessary to observe stability in the country and prevent coupling.

It is noted that Lukashenko considers it much more often the rest of the actions to be correct. According to those who gave such an assessment, "he does a lot, lifts his country from his knees," "does not allow his country to destroy and prevents it from tearing."

The opposite opinion is shared by 21% of respondents. Among them, every third (34%) - aged 18 to 30 years. They noted that the president is tough with the protesters and does not conduct a dialogue with them, and also that he should leave the presidency. Another 27% of Russians informed about the political situation in Belarus found it difficult to answer the question of Lukashenko’s actions.

The study says that 87% of respondents know about Belarusian protests. Of these, 30% are well aware of this topic, 57% of respondents know about the situation in a neighboring country in general terms, another 13% for the first time heard about this. 33% of respondents learn this information from television and radio programs, 18% on news sites, 9% in social networks or instant messengers.

At the same time, 29% of respondents said that Russian official media cover the situation in Belarus more objectively, while 23% announced the bias. Another 15% found it difficult to answer this question.

23% of Russians closely monitor the events in Belarus. According to 39% of respondents, most Belarusians support the president, 24% of respondents believe that the people of Belarus are on the side of the protesters. 46% of Russians are more likely to support Lukashenko, 17% - rather protesters.

At the same time, 45% of respondents believe that protests are organized from abroad, 15% - that they are organized by Belarusians themselves. Under these conditions, 45% believe that Russia should not interfere in the situation in the country, and 29% offer to support Alexander Lukashenko. Only 3% of respondents said the need to support protesters.
