An important element of the lower church front is a rejection of various kinds of national campaigns initiated by the authorities.

History of the issue: from abortion to 5G

How the Orthodox relate to vaccinations in Soviet times is not known for certain. Then they were not particularly interested in their opinion, and if some fanatical mother did not allow children to vaccinate, she was easily deprived of parental rights. This problem began to be actively discussed in the Russian Orthodox Church only in the 90s, when the first movements against vaccination arose, which considered it among other “bioethical” sins, such as abortion and contraception.

These movements influenced the social concept of the Russian Orthodox Church adopted in 2000, where any use of abortive materials in medicine is condemned.

In turn, the Social Concept is referred to by the Council on the Biomedical Ethics of the Moscow Patriarchate, which, in a joint with the Society of the Orthodox Doctors of Russia, a statement on vaccination problems of May 25, 2009 indicates that the fabrics of the aborted embryo are used to make some vaccines.

Orthodoxy “does not accept therapeutic methods related to the use of human embryonic tissue,” is emphasized in the document. A million views scored a film of the popular Orthodox director Galina Tsarev “Pandemia of Lis” on YouTube, which exposes the vaccination as “the conspiracy of the world government in order to reduce the population of the Earth”.

Probably, the current vaccine from coronavirus does not use embryonic fabrics, but fear is already sown and rooted. Thus, a member of the Synod of the Georgian Patriarchate, Metropolitan of the Khonsky and Samtredsky, Savva claims that the vaccine "will not so much fight the virus as to enslave people, manage people, subjugate them."

In numerous videos of the elder Sergius (Romanova), the topic is disclosed in more detail from the Sredneural Monastery. He borrowed from the Protestant fundamentalists from the USA and Great Britain “Teaching” that in general the “meaning of the current pandemic” is reduced to the establishment of total control over the consciousness of each person. The adherents of this teaching, who tried to destroy mobile towers, believe that the pandemic is “invented” for the sake of vaccination, which allows you to introduce elements that are sensitive to 5G signal into the human body.

The Synod of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, which is the semi -automatic part of the Russian Orthodox Church, accepted such a teaching at the official level.

On June 30, he issued a statement stating that the Covid-19 vaccine allows the “antichrist global system to introduce microchips into the bodies of people to control them using 5G technology”. The document states that the “Benifier” of the mentioned system is billionaire Bill Gates, supposedly and developed all the technology. Although this document is posted on some official websites of the Russian Orthodox Church, we must remind you that the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation considers such a concept “inaccurate information distributed under the reliable guise”. But for many believers, the publication of the same Pochaev Lavra is much more authoritative than the position of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation.

Patriarch does not share enthusiasm

Information on the introduction of a Russian vaccine from coronavirus even before the end of all stages of its clinical trials caused a very different reaction in the highest church leadership. The relatively young “Foreign Minister” of the Russian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeev), who in June called to become a volunteer when testing the vaccine, accepted it with extraordinary enthusiasm. He now devotes each of his sermon to the audience’s conviction of immediate vacation and humility to possible negative consequences.

Its main argument is "the risks of side effects and the disease itself are not comparable." Ilarion, in particular, said this on September 12 on the air of the Russia 24 television channel. And in a sermon in the church of the Chernihiv courtyard in Moscow on September 11, he developed a whole theological doctrine about why Christians should avoid suffering from coronavirus.

True, Hilarion critics did not fail to notice that the traditional Orthodox teaching and, in particular, the lives of saints, on the contrary, teach the suffering allowed by God for the sake of purifying the soul.

A completely different, restrained position was taken by Patriarch Kirill (Gundyaev). His official representative, deputy. Vakhtang Kipshidze stated the chairman of the Synodal Department for the relationship between the Church and the media on September 4 to the publication “Open Media”: “Until all clinical trials, the question of the vaccine against coronavirus, whether the Holiness Patriarch will be vaccinated and this is publicly relevant.”

Earlier, Hilarion indirectly criticized the Patriarch for inconsistency in conducting anticoronaviral measures. The Metropolitan noted that on July 18, on the day of the Monk Sergius of Radonezh, the Patriarch dedicated his entire sermon in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra not to Sergius, but of the epidemic. But at the same time, Hilarion continues, “everything that was happening around did not testify that people care about each other, about those who came to the laurel for this holiday ... In the Lavra on Easter days, a flash of illness began, people, monks, we prayed for them, prayed for them, but as if these lessons did not teach anything people.”

Meanwhile, in Kyiv, the former chief of Cyril (for more than a month he headed the Russian Orthodox Church in 1990 as a patriarchal locomotor), and now the “anathematized split” Patriarch Filaret (Denisenko) safely coped with the coronavirus at the age of 91!

It is clear that there are quite logical explanations-the flow of people in churches and monasteries is more difficult to control than in states, and the forms of church communication (for example, confession) imply quite close contact.
